Last night I saw upon the stair
A little man who was not there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away

When you wake up at night from a terrible dream, you feel that comfort, that assurance that everything is ok and that the world is as it should be, but..what if you didn't wake up...what if it really wasn't a dream, but some horrible nightmare there is not escape from. Life can often be a nightmare, but mine will never end..never end...Aye and Ei will never end, never let me sleep..never let me go....

~Story~

Long ago, I can't remember anymore, I worked in the old haunted wood carnival. I was a ventriliquest. But I'll admit, I wasn't all that good. My show never seemed to make any money, and the ring leader was on the verge of tossing me to the curb. I needed to find a way to improve my act and fast. My Puppet, a double headed uni plush I called Aye and Ei, was old, falling apart, and often it's appearance would scare the childern. This alone was no problem, the carnival was ment to scare, but, truth be told after awhile they began to scare me too. Their eyes always on me, watching my every move. Alone in my trailor with them was pure maddness. But then, I knew nothing of maddness then... One night near closing time, I ran into our magician, a halloween Lenny named Djinn, and I mean literally! I slamed into her and we both fell to the ground. She'd been in a terrible hurry, and rose rushing off without another word. In a slight daze I looked around for Aye and Ei whom had fallen out of my grasp and I found them not far off....resting apon the spell book belonging to Djinn. I looked up to find her, my ivory locks falling into my blue eyes, but she was long gone. With a sigh I picked up the book and the puppet and returned to my trailor, I'd give the book back when I saw her next. But as I sat in my silence, that book seemed to call to me. Djinn's shows were always sell outs, what did she have that I didn't? So finally I found the curage to read her book. The spells inside were dark, devious, and evil, but one caught my eye. "To bring life to the lifeless." I cast a wary gaze to my puppet. How great would it be to have a LIVING puppet in my show! But to preform sorcery to do it? I tried to shake the thought from my mind, but somehow it kept forcing it's way back till at last I could resist no longer. I spoke the words, and apon my hind, and the shoulder of the puppet I was instructed to paint a symbol I'd never seen before. I obeyed and the spell was cast. At first I thought nothing had changed, till a searing pain burned at my flesh where the mare lay. The mark was branding itself into my skin, I screamed in agony as my pure white hair melted to midnight blue, my once lovely blue coat dappled and darkened, and my eyes lost the pupil, fading to a haunting bright blue that seemed to glow. Aye and Ei were going through changes as well. Their body began to move and shift till at last, blinking her black bead eye to me, Aye spoke. "To have done this, is truely grand, Perhaps now we'll lend a hand." she replied in a high pitched voice. Ei was next to speak, his voice much deeper and darker, "But disobey and you'll have to pay." he hissed and I fell to my knees. I felt a tug at my stomach as my mind began to slip into darkness. I could no longer remember my family, my past or even why I was at the carnival, all I knew is that the puppet's voice rang in my ears almost constantly, and I suddenly had a terribly craving...."The secret to your dreams, is locked within our seams..." The two replied together and I learched from the trailor. I kiIIed everyone I met, carnies, patrons, anything that bothered to walk my way, I slew them all in cold blood, all along the puppet laughing to me apon my back. I finally reached the Ring Leaders tent and tore it down with my teeth. The wocky stared at me in horror as my glowing blue eyes bore into his. "Why are you doing this?" he gasped. An evil smile slid over my lips. "Because I can..." I hissed in words not my own, and destroyed the creature. I left that night, slaying everything I saw, and liking it, till of course, the sun rose and my mind began to clear. In the darkness of the following days, with Aye and Ei's dark words to haunt me, I cried my Lament to the shadows, which in turn, is what granted me my new name.....Lament....
