~Story~

My life has been strange yet so very satisfying so far. I have achieved many things and gained much honor from my exprience. Perhaps I shall start from the begining.

Our lands have a legend for how they came to be. Once long ago a small herd of Kirin lived peacefully in the feilds and meadows. Their lives were carefree and without tormoil. But one day the earth shook with change. The leader looked into the sky to see something amazing. A dragon goddess came tumbling to the earth from so high she seemed nothing more than a grain of rice at first. The family of Kirin assempled a bed of grasses and reids to break her fall when she finally hit earth. She was so thankful for their help, for she was bearing in her arms a tiny egg..her only born child. The family nursed her back to health, but there came a time when she had to leave to feed and alert the rest of her clan as to where she was. But the egg could not be moved again or it would surely die...for that had been her downfall before. She'd been flying so high, too keep the egg warm in the sun, that she'd lost her breath. The Kirin family knew the only honorable thing to do was to care for the tiny egg till the dragon Goddess could return. With thanks she left for her people, and the Kirin began to assemple a great temble around the egg to insure it's safty. This Temple would soon be called what it is today...House of Golden Dragon.
Months passed and the egg did not hatch, nor did mother dragon return. The Kirin became worried for their beloved friend, and began to lose hope. Finally, one sunny day in season of cherrybloosoms, the lookout called to his family the joyful news that their goddess had returned. She was so very pleased to see the temple, and how well they'd protected her young that she granted them all gold trimed wings, so that they may come to visit her anytime they choose. The same day she returned, the egg began to hatch. Watching in awe, the family saw a tiny golden dragon emerge. The mother was extatic. It was remarkable good luck for a golden dragon to be born, and could only come about from feeling much kindness. The godess left that day with her newborn child, but forever after the family remembered her, and were blessed from their good deed to her.

And so, I was born to this house of Golden Dragon. I admit, my birth at first was one unexpected and almost unwanted. Our people the Kirin would normally never breed outside our species, but fate would have it that the mare that would be my mother fell deeply in love with a western Pegasus. He was hansome and unlike all the Kirin stallions. The two were so in love, but her family forbade them marry. So, one night my mother escaped the house to be with her love. When her family arose the next day they were furious to their disobeient child, and when she finally returned they punished her greatly and forebade her from ever seeing him again. Saddly, she never did, for shortly after, his herd returned to the west, never to return. But that one night alone had been all love needed to plant it's seed. I was born many months later.
For many of my first years, I was shunned by the family. I was not of thier bloodline so I was to be ignored, but very soon, they were reminded by their patron dragon, that kindness is deserved by all.

Growing up I had no friends and my mother knew this pained me greatly, so, to keep me occupied, she began to teach me the art of Origami. In truth, she'd been so fond of the art in her own youth that this is how she came to call me, Oregami. It is very hard for equines to do this skill, for we have no hands or thumbs, but using our lips, an hooves to steady, we've learned to practice this beautiful art. Even when just started, my mother told me imediately that there was one character that I would never be able to create for it was far to difficult for us. And that was the dragon. She showed me cranes, and frogs, and flowers, but would never show me the dragon. But somehow, from a very young age, I'd always felt a deep connection with the dragons. I knew I had to honor our founding mother so in secret, day in and day out I would try to make the dragon. Time and time again I failed, unable to perform the delicate folds required. But finally, when I was nearing my first year, with hours of work, and failing, I finally gazed down at my completed dragon origami. My elation was only short, for suddenly, the sky grew dark, and the winds blew chill. I looked up to see the sun blotted out by a great creature. As he neared I saw that it was none other than a decendant of our Dragon Goddess. He came to me and smiled so tender. "Little one, your dedication and heart has not gone unnoticed by the gods. Dispite being shunned from the Golden Dragon house, you loved your mother dragon so much that you gave her this wonderful gift...so in return, I shall grant you a gift." he replied, and he leaned his great head down and gently blew apon my tiny dragon. With a shudder, the tiny peice of paper suddenly leapt to life! It flew about my head gleefully, pleased to have it's knew mother. "From this day foreward, you will never be alone again, for anything you form from paper will come to life." he replied and then turned to the family who had been watching from the house. "As for you all...shame and dishonor to you for abandoning your daughter. She was born of this house just as my great grand father was. The great Golden Dragon. HE was not of your species yet you loved him fully, yet a daughter of your own is ignored because of blood...." the family fell to their knees and begged forgivness from the Dragon, and from me. "Never again will you forget the lessons of your ancestors. Love all equally, for we are all children of the gods." he replied and as they vowed, brother dragon rose to his haunces and launched back into the heavens. From that day on the family always treated me kindly, and almost favored me more than most. They marvled at my living origami, and often asked me to create till the house was teaming with little paper creatures.
But as with all things, I soon grew older and knew that I had to share my gift with the world and not just my family. So I set forth into the world, bidding a fond fairewell to my mother and family. But before leaving, an elder of the house had been gifted with the talent to tatoo, so to honor my meeting brother Dragon, I had a full body Irezumi printed apon my flesh. The pain was as nothing, for I knew this was truely something I would treasure all my life, and no matter how far from home I found myself, I would always have a piece with me.
